BOOK
Ephesians
But since we were torn away from you, brothers, for a short time, in person not in heart, we endeavoured the more eagerly and with great desire to see you face to face, 18 because we wanted to come to you—I, Paul, again and again—but Satan hindered us. (1 Thessalonians 2:17-18, ESV)
1. “I am weak but thou are might” (v.10)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. (Ephesians 6:10, ESV)
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5, ESV)
2. “Hold me with thy powerful hand” – The need for full armour (v.11)
[…] that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. […] 13 […] that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, […] (Ephesians 6:11-14, ESV)
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12, ESV)
2. “Hold me with thy powerful hand” – The need for full armour (v.11)
a) To be strong in the Lord, you must be in the Lord.
b) To be strong in the Lord, you must know your own weakness.
c) To be strong in the Lord, you must know the Lord’s strength.
3. “Strong Deliverer, ever be my strength and shield – Take It Up!” (v.13)
Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. (Ephesians 6:13, ESV)
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith […]” (1 Peter 5:8-9, ESV)
